John Hurlbut – His most celebrated expedition as a sea captain was a 32 month trip around the world, completed in 1799, on the whaler "Neptune". Not only was it one of the first American Vessels to circumnavigate the globe, but it was the 29 year-old Hurlbut’s first time as a ship’s captain. His home, the " Hurlbut-Dunham House", located at 212 Main Street, Wethersfield, Connecticut, now belongs to the Wethersfield Historical Society and is open for viewing.
